GM Sets Price Of Plug-In Volt: $41,000

General Motors dealers in select markets are taking orders, starting Tuesday, for its much anticipated Chevy Volt. The price point for the hybrid plug-in is $41,000. Sound steep? Well, buyers will be able to take advantage of a federal tax credit that will cut the cost by as much as $7,500. Robert Siegel talks to Dan Neil, automotive critic for the Wall Street Journal, who says of the sticker price that GM, in its new regime as “Government Motors,” couldn’t reduce the price because “they had to make money per unit upfront.
